Bats - The Flying Mammal

Bats might look like birds because they have wings, but they are not birds. They are mammals like mice and humans. Bats are the only mammal able to truly fly. The scientific name for bat is Chiroptera which is is Greek for “hand-wing”. The bat has webbing between the fingers and also between the “hand” and body, and that makes it able to fly.
